"We want to teach our kids what I call the Minnesota way. We're going to expect them to play hard. Any football team I've been associated with has always played hard, but you have to develop that through practice. We need to learn how to finish, finish drills, finish plays and hustle around, those sort of things."

"We're looking forward to getting on the field, working with the young people and seeing where we're at."

"We have to play consistent, and play smart. "Missed assignments and misalignments will beat you long before mismatches."

"We have to teach our philosophies and schemes. We're not going to be able to be who we want to be next year because we don't get to recruit for all that right now. We have our football team assembled going through the spring and that's what we're going to have to rely on. We have to find out what we can do and that's going identify who we're going to be, and that's going to need to happen in the spring."

"If we can improve just half as well as we did last year (in net punting), we can win two more games just off that. I guarantee you when we go to eat, it will be the punting unit eating first. I'm going to be coaching the punt team because we need to get that turned around."

"We'll know a lot after 15 days. You can't judge things after one day or one practice, it has to be over a period of time. When spring is over, we'll have a better feel of things."

"All I can control is our team getting better. I can't control who we play for the most part. I can't control the weather. I can't control a lot of things. But I can control our team getting better."

"It will be interesting to see how it all works out at quarterback. We don't have a number-one at any position. We're not giving away playing time. It's a privilege and they're going to have to earn it."

"We need to find out about a lot of things in the spring, and that's what it's there for. There will be some player that nobody out there has heard of that's pretty darn good. I hope there's a whole bunch of them."

"We're going to be aggressive on defense. One goal from the spring is going to be to try to find somebody who can turn the corner and get after the quarterback. We're not going to try to read anything, we're coming up the field. It's going to take a while to learn that mentality, but that's the only way I've done it my whole career."

"It's a grind. I'm trying to change the culture and capture everybody and get them believing. The guys need to earn their playing time. We can't end up going into the first game with somebody we can't rely on."

"We're really a young team. If you go through the charts, we're a youthful football team."

"(At the end of the season) I'll gauge our team based on our ability to get better each week. If we can lay the foundation and discipline and the things that we want in our program by the end of the year, I'll be okay with it. The wins will come if we're doing all those things."
