Minnesota Travels to Indiana

Minnesota will travel to Indiana for a Big Ten road series on Apr. 22-24. The Golden Gophers will face the Hoosiers on Friday, Apr. 22 at 2:05 p.m. (CT), Saturday, Apr. 23 at 12:05 p.m. and Sunday, Apr. 24 at 11 a.m.

All three games can be heard live in the Gold Zone for free. Sunday's game can be seen live on the Big Ten Network.  Minnesota had its midweek-game against South Dakota State postponed until Tuesday, Apr. 26 at 3:05 p.m. because of inclement weather. The Gophers are tied for ninth at 3-6 and is 11-15 overall. Indiana enters the week having played 10 more games than the Gophers have this year.

The Gophers are led by junior shortstop AJ Pettersen who is batting .368 with 19 runs, seven doubles and six stolen bases. Pettersen has collected hits in 25 of 26 games this season. Nick O'Shea is also batting .321 with 10 runs, seven doubles and a team-best 17 RBI. Justin Gominsky also has 16 runs, seven stolen bases and is batting .316.

Minnesota will send TJ Oakes to the mound on Friday against Indiana starter Blake Monar. Oakes is 3-4 with a 3.83 ERA and has struck out 28 batters in 47.0 innings. Senior Phil Isaksson, who is 1-4 with a 3.43 ERA, will start for the Gophers on Saturday against Hoosier starter Chad Martin. Junior Austin Lubinsky will start on Sunday against Joey DeNato. Lubinsky has a 2.70 ERA in three Big Ten starts, and is 2-3 with a 5.59 ERA and has 28 strikeouts in 37.0 innings.

Senior Scott Matyas is 1-0 with a five saves, a 1.56 ERA and has 23 strikeouts in 17.1 innings. Billy Soule has not given up a run the last 10.1 innings, which has spanned his last five outings. Soule is 2-1 with a 2.05 ERA and has struck out 20 batters in 22.0 innings.

Indiana enters the series with a 25-12 overall record and is tied with Michigan State for first place in the Big Ten at 6-3. The Hoosiers defeated Louisville 5-3 on Apr. 19 and Morehead State 5-1 on Apr. 20. Indiana also took two out of three games at Iowa last week. The Hoosiers won the first game 2-1, lost the second 2-1 and claimed the series finale 6-0. Indiana is led by Alex Dickerson who has five home runs 34 RBI and is batting .364. Dustin DeMuth leads the team in batting average at .380, and has 28 runs and 15 RBI. Micah Johnson has a team-best 32 runs and 18 stolen bases, and is batting .324 on the season.

Pitching wise, the Hoosiers are led by Joe DeNato who is 5-1 with a 2.43 ERA and has 34 strikeouts in 37.0 innings. Chad Martin is also 2-2 with a 2.41 ERA and has a .230 opponents batting average. Blake Monar has also started all nine weeks for the Hoosiers, and is 4-2 with a 3.62 ERA and 44 strikeouts in 54.2 innings, while Drew Leininger is 4-2 with a 3.69 ERA and has 27 strikeouts in 39.0 innings. Out of the bullpen, Ryan Halstead leads the way, as he is 3-1 with eight saves, a 1.57 ERA and has 14 strikeouts in 23.0 innings.

Minnesota leads the all-time series 98-39 over Indiana. Last year, the Gophers won two out of three during the regular-season against the Hoosiers and defeated Indiana 10-8 in their first game of the Big Ten Tournament on the way to claiming the title. In 2009, the Hoosiers won three of four from Minnesota, including a pair of games on their way to the 2009 tournament championship.
