Minnesota had two players named to the Capital One Academic All-District V First Team, as both junior shortstop AJ Pettersen and junior first baseman Nick O'Shea were among those honored in voting by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Pettersen (Minnetonka, Minn./Minnetonka HS) leads the Gophers with a .354 batting average, 27 runs scored, 52 hits, nine doubles, a .406 on-base percentage, and seven stolen bases through 35 games. Pettersen is an economics major with a 3.72 grade point average.

O'Shea (Blaine, Minn./Centennial HS) is batting .277 with team-leading totals of 21 runs batted in and three home runs. He helped the Gophers defeat Michigan on Friday night by hitting his third round-tripper, a two-run shot in the fourth that provided the winning runs in a 4-1 victory. O'Shea is a mechanical engineering major with a 3.80 grade point average.

Both players will now be included on the national ballot, with the possibility of earning Capital One Academic All-America honors.

Minnesota (17-18 overall, 9-7 Big Ten) has eight Big Ten games remaining prior to the 2011 Big Ten Tournament in Columbus, Ohio, from May 25-28.
