World Champion Giants Draft Austin Lubinsky

University of Minnesota junior pitcher Austin Lubinsky (LaCrosse, Wis. / Logan HS) was drafted by the San Francisco Giants with the 26th pick in the 36th round (1,107th overall) of the Major League Baseball Draft on Wednesday afternoon.
Lubinsky, a 6-foot-1, 195-pound right-hander for the Gophers, was 5-6 with a 4.36 earned run average this season. He made 14 appearances, including 13 as a starter, striking out 53 batters in 74.1 innings pitched. He was Minnesota's Sunday starter during Big Ten play, going 2-3 with a 2.82 ERA in conference games.
As a sophomore, Lubinsky appeared in 10 games, making seven starts, and went 1-3 with a 5.28 ERA in 30.2 innings pitched.
During his freshman season, he went 3-1 with a 4.78 ERA, two saves and struck out 23 batters in 37.2 innings to earn a spot on the Big Ten All-Freshman Team. In conference play that season, he was 3-0 with a 3.92 ERA, and struck out 13 batters in 18.1 innings.
Lubinsky becomes the fifth Minnesota player drafted this year, as Justin Gominsky (Houston Astros, 11th Round), Nick O'Shea (Cincinnati Reds, 24th Round), AJ Pettersen (Minnesota Twins, 25th Round), and Scott Matyas (Detroit Tigers, 27th Round) were all selected on the draft's second day.
