This is the fourth part of a summer series on GopherSports.com featuring reports written by members of the women's basketball team that detail some of the interesting things they're doing this summer. Today's "What I'm Doing This Summer" feature is written by sophomore guard Sari Noga, who has already been to a couple concerts and her first-ever trip to a drive-in movie theater.
Although my summer hasn't been quite as exciting as some of the girls, I have had a wonderful summer, and it's sure going by fast!
It was super nice to finally be able to move into the Wilkins Apartments after a year in the dorms. Even though it was a fun experience, it is really nice having my own bed, bathroom and kitchen! One thing I did carry over the same from the dorms was my roommate, Micaella Riche. I love her and I'm so excited to be living with her over the course of our college years.
One memorable thing I've done this summer so far would be going to the Lynx game for Gopher Night (on June 26). Seeing all the fans come out and watching the game was an awesome experience, and watching the Lynx basketball players I looked up to (Lindsay Whalen, Maya Moore, etc.) was even better.
Another memorable thing I did this summer was go to a concert at the Minnesota Zoo Amphitheater. I went with my boyfriend, Peter, and we watched Jack's Mannequin. We went to the zoo a little before the concert and walked around a bit, checking out the animals. But once the concert started, it was an unforgettable experience! It was such a beautiful amphitheater, right on a lake, and a sold out show made the atmosphere awesome. But also getting to spend all of that time with my boyfriend made it even better! :)
Another unforgettable concert which I got to attend, also with Peter, was the Glee show at the Target Center. We went for my birthday, and I was super excited to get to see all of the characters right on stage, singing the songs from my favorite TV show. It was the best. Those two concerts have to be on the top of my list so far.
One more memorable moment I had this summer was getting to go to a drive-in movie theater with some of the girls in Jackie's hometown of Cottage Grove! I had never been to a movie theater like that, and getting to sit in lawn chairs while listening to the movie through the car radio was an awesome experience. I would say the only downside to the event would be the mosquitos that were super friendly with all of us, leaving nice little bites behind. The two movies we watched were Zoo Keeper and part of Cars 2.
Being that you cannot start movies until dusk, the second movie got to be a bit late, and most of the girls fell right asleep in their chairs (including myself). Overall, it was a great time, and hopefully we'll be making a trip back there soon!
