The University of Minnesota women's tennis team announced its schedule for the 2011-12 season today. The Gophers, led by coach Tyler Thomson, will play in six fall tournaments during September, October and November before beginning dual-match play in late January. Minnesota will host the Gopher Invitational for the first time since 2009 when Bradley, Drake, Gustavus, Iowa, Iowa State, LSU, UW-Milwaukee and Wisconsin travel to Baseline Tennis Center for the Sept. 16-18 event.

The Gophers will then head south to Iowa for the Northern Iowa Invitational from Sept. 23-25. It will be the second straight year that Minnesota will compete in UNI's event. Minnesota closes out September and begins October when it competes in the Sept. 30-Oct. 2 Wildcat Invitation in Evanston, Ill., for the sixth straight year.

Minnesota wraps up its fall tournament schedule with the ITA All-American Championship (Oct. 1-9), the Wilson/ITA Central Regional Championship (Oct. 20-24) and the Kitty Harrison Invitational (Nov. 4-6).

The Gophers begin spring play at home against Iowa State on Jan. 27 and will also host non-conference opponents Carleton, Creighton, Missouri, Virginia Tech, Washington and William & Mary at Baseline Tennis Center this year.

Minnesota's non-conference road schedule will take the Gophers to Wake Forest, North Carolina State, Tulane and LSU.

The Maroon and Gold will play their first three Big Ten matches on the road this season beginning at Wisconsin on March 4. Minnesota will play six league road matches this season as Nebraska joins the Big Ten this year and will travel to Michigan, Michigan State, Nebraska, Penn State and Ohio State.

The Gophers' home Big Ten schedule includes Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Northwestern and Purdue.
