University of Minnesota left winger Rachael Bona, who scored a key goal and put seven shots on goal last weekend as the host Golden Gophers banked five points in a two-game league series against Bemidji State, is the WCHA Women's Rookie of the Week for Jan. 25.

A freshman from Coon Rapids, Minn., Bona scored Minnesota's first goal in last Friday's 3-2 victory over the Beavers at Ridder Arena, igniting a comeback after the Gophers had trailed 2-0. Her goal came at 7:01 of the second period to close the gap to 2-1. Last Saturday, the Gophers and Beavers skated to a 3-3 overtime tie before Minnesota gained the extra point with a 2-0 shootout win.

Bona, who has scored a point in every series so far in 2012, getting an assist against Wisconsin (Jan. 7), an assist against Minnesota Duluth (Jan. 13), and a goal against Bemidji State (Jan. 20), has four goals, five assists and nine points in 26 games played as a rookie.

The WCHA Rookie of the Week honor is the sixth conference weekly award for the Gophers this season, and marks Bona's first award of the season.
