Last Friday, a few members of the Gopher women's soccer team visited the Emily O. Goodridge-Grey Accelerated Charter School in Minneapolis as part of the Exercise Your Heart and Mind program.

Jackie Voigt, MacKenzie Misel, Marissa Price, and Allie Reinke spent a few hours at the school, interacting with around 50 kids in two classrooms. The girls participated in an arts and crafts project of making lava lamps, taught math tricks, spoke about the importance of education, and answered questions about life as a student-athlete.

Voigt worked closely with former Gopher track athlete Krista Skoglund who is now a teacher at the charter school to coordinate the specific event.

"The kids we worked with seemed to have a lot of fun while we were there," said Voigt of the experience. "Hopefully they were able to see that math and science can be fun."

The Exercise Your Heart and Mind program partners the University of Minnesota with St. Jude Medical to promote healthy lifestyles among elementary, junior high, and senior high school students. Gopher student-athletes take part to help strive to increase activity and promote science and math education to school-age children.
