The Big Ten Conference announced Monday afternoon that freshman Kaitlyn Richardson was tagged as Co-Freshman of the Week for her efforts in helping the University of Minnesota softball team garner 2-of-3 games from Nebraska. The Phoenix, Ariz. native went .500 (6-for-12) from the plate while tallying an OPS of 1.758.
Over the weekend, Richardson knocked in a total of six RBI while hitting two doubles and two home runs. The freshman also scored at least twice in each game. Richardson garnered a hit in each game and carries a five-game hit streak into this weekend.
This is Richardson's third Big Ten Freshman of the Week honor this season. The accolade is shared with freshman pitcher Lexy Moore from Purdue, who was also named Pitcher of the Week.
Minnesota (21-10, 3-3 Big Ten) gets back on the road this weekend as they travel to Madison, Wis. for the Border Battle matchup. The Gophers will play one game on Friday and have a doubleheader with the Badgers (14-12, 3-3 Big Ten) on Saturday.
