Gopher 4x1,600 Relay Finishes Second at Drake

The Golden Gophers got off to an impressive start at the Drake Relays on Thursday. In their first event of the meet, they finished second in the 4x1,600-meter relay. With a time of 19 minutes, 17.71 seconds, Minnesota finished less than one second behind race champion Iowa (19:16.73).
The young Gophers' times got progressively faster each leg of the race. Katie Moraczewski led off with a split of 4:54. Molly Kayfes (4:50) and Ashlie Decker (4:47) followed. Laura Docherty anchored the team with a final split of 4:41.
Annie Talajkowski posted Minnesota's best finish in the 10K, clocking in at 35:43.39. For full results from the first day of the Drake Relays, click .
The action resumes tomorrow at 8:00 a.m. The Gophers will run in the distance medley relay (1:15 p.m.) and the 4x800 (7:50 p.m.).
