Minnesota senior kicker Chris Hawthorne was named Big Ten Special Teams Player of the Week after his performance against Nebraska. Hawthorne, who was 4-for-4 on point-after attempts, also connected on two field goals to tally 10 points for the Gophers in their 34-23 win.

Hawthorne drilled a 26-yard field goal in the second quarter and then tied his season long with a 45-yard kick in the third quarter to put Minnesota up 27-13. He also averaged 60.4 yards on seven kickoffs and had one touchback.

Hawthorne is the second Gopher to be honored as the Big Ten Special Teams Player of the Week this year. Marcus Jones also received the recognition after his punt return at New Mexico State.

Hawthorne is the first Gopher kicker to be honored since Jordan Wettstein on Oct. 31, 2011.
