University of Minnesota head volleyball coach Hugh McCutcheon has announced that Molly Lohman (Mankato, Minn.) has signed a National Letter of Intent and will join the Golden Gopher Volleyball program in the fall of 2014.
"Molly is a wonderful addition to our program," McCutcheon said. "We could not be happier that she has chosen to study and compete here at the University of Minnesota. She is a talented and driven volleyball athlete and we look forward to working with her in 2014 and beyond."
Lohman, a 6-foot, 3-inch middle blocker, completed her senior year with Mankato West High School this fall. An all-state selection in her final year, Lohman was also an all-conference selection as she helped Mankato West to a Big 9 conference title. Her 115 blocks this year ranked second in the state of Minnesota, while her 365 kills ranked ninth.
Lohman finished her scholastic career with 853 kills, 51 assists, 94 aces, 250 blocks and 307 digs. As a member of the Northern Lights club team, Lohman was an AAU All-American as a part of the 17-1 team in 2013 where the team placed fifth. On the list of Prep Volleyball's Top 100, Lohman was ranked 38th. She was also a part of the Northern Lights 16 AAU National Championship team.
The daughter of Janine and Thomas Lohman, Molly has been on the A-honor roll every semester and will graduate in the spring of 2014.
"When I was looking for a college, I knew early on I wanted to stay in the Big Ten," Lohman said. "As one of the big powerhouses in collegiate volleyball, this conference allowed me to get away from Mankato but also stay within the state of Minnesota. After touring the U, I knew it was where I wanted to play. I loved the other players, the amazing coaches, the facilities, and the program. I found myself looking forward to the strong competition within the conference, and I'm really excited for the next four years."
