GAME DAY TID-BITS
• The Gophers are 4-1 all-time against teams currently in the Big South Conference, including 1-0 against Coastal Carolina. Minnesota defeated the Chanticleers, 75-57, on Dec. 3, 2005 at Williams Arena.
• Dan Coleman led the team with 14 points that night while current Gopher Radio Network analyst Spencer Tollackson chipped in with 13 points and a game-high eight rebounds.
• Richard Pitino is 1-0 all-time against Coastal Carolina. His FIU squad defeated the Chanticleers by 10, 87-77, behind 21 points from current Gophers' guard Malik Smith. It was the first career win for Coach Pitino.
• Coastal Carolina Coach Cliff Ellis was not with the program during its trip in `05 but Ellis did bring his Clemson Tigers to Williams Arena on Dec. 15, 1993, a 73-54 Gopher win. That game has since been vacated, however.
• Through three games Andre Hollins is leading the Gophers and the Big Ten Conference with a scoring average of 22.7 ppg. Minnesota has not had a player lead the B1G in scoring since Kris Humphries did so during the 2003-04 season with an average of 21.7 ppg. In fact, dating back to the 1947-48 season, the program has only had 16 seasons that a player finished with a scoring average of over 20.0 ppg.
• The Gophers have managed 25 steals through three games this season, the most by any Big Ten team after the first two weeks of play. DeAndre Mathieu leads the team with six steals while senior Austin Hollins has five. Austin has 143 career steals which is currently the ninth-most in the history of the Golden Gopher program.
• Head Coach Richard Pitino announced the signing of three players to National Letters of Intent. Joining the squad next season will be forward Josh Martin (Seattle, Wash.), guard Nate Mason (Decatur, Ga) and guard Carlos Morris (Apalachicola, Fla). Martin & Mason will be freshmen while Morris is a junior college transfer.
