Head coach Jessica Allister brought her Minnesota Golden Gophers to Stanford University, where she starred as an All-America catcher, as Minnesota took part in the Louisville Slugger Classic over the weekend.
The Gophers went 3-2 at the tournament, winning a pair of games against Pacific (1-0, 4-2) and a second game in three weeks against Florida Gulf Coast (4-1), while dropping two hard-fought games versus No. 18/19 Stanford (2-1 in 8 inn., 9-7).
Minnesota was led by junior pitcher Sara Moulton, who went 3-1 with a 0.29 earned run average in four appearances. Moulton made three starts, pitching complete games in each one, including a shutout and two three-hitters. She allowed just 14 hits and five runs (one earned) in 24.1 IP, striking out 23 and walking just three, while holding opposing batters to a .151 average with no extra base hits.
Offensively, sophomore shortstop Tyler Walker batted .412 (7-for-17) with five runs scored, an RBI, one double, a home run, and a stolen base. Walker went 2-for-3 with a double and a home run in Minnesota's 4-2 win against Pacific on Saturday, and followed by going 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored in the Gophers' 9-7 loss to the Cardinal later that afternoon. She wrapped up the tournament by going 2-for-3 with a run scored and a stolen base against FGCU.
Here's our weekly feature of video highlights from all the action, brought to you through the camera lens of the talented Michael Kyllo-Kittleson.
