Minnesota Earns No. 3 Seed at Big Ten Tournament

MINNEAPOLIS, MINN. - Minnesota will be seeded third at the 2013 Big Ten Softball Tournament, which begins on Thursday with first-round games at the University of Nebraska's Bowlin Stadium in Lincoln, Neb.
The Gophers finished the regular season with a record of 33-16 overall and 14-6 in the Big Ten for third place in the final regular season standings. Michigan (44-9, 20-2) will be the top seed in the four-day single-elimination tournament, while host Nebraska (39-12, 16-6) will be the No. 2 seed, and Wisconsin (39-11, 16-7) earned the fourth seed. Those four teams receive first-round byes and will begin play on Friday.
Minnesota will open the tournament on Friday at 4:30 p.m. (CT) against the winner of Thursday's game between sixth-seeded Illinois (22-26, 11-12) and No. 11 Penn State (15-33, 5-17). If the Gophers win, they would advance to Saturday's semifinals at 4:30 p.m., where they would face the winner of the game between Nebraska and No. 7 Michigan State (24-24, 9-10)/No. 10 Purdue (22-31, 8-15).
Sunday's championship game is set for 12:00 p.m. Both Saturday's semifinal games, as well as Sunday's championship game, will be televised live on the Big Ten Network.
