Pintusava Falls in Three Sets

Minnesota women's tennis senior Natallia Pintusava dropped her first-round match in the 2013 Riviera/ITA All-American Championships pre-qualifying bracket in Pacific Palisades, Calif. Saturday. Baylor senior Jordaan Sanford advanced to the second round past the fourth-year Gopher standout with a three-set win, 6-1, 2-6, 6-2.
Pintusava, an All-Big Ten Second Team selection in 2012-13 fell to 2-3 in fall play after going 2-2 for a sixth-place finish in the top flight at the Gopher Invitational a week ago at the Baseline Tennis Center.
The Minsk, Belarus native was Minnesota's lone representative at the event.
The pre-qualifying singles draw, hosted by UCLA, began with 62 players, the top eight of whom will move on to qualifying play. Sanford will now play Rana Sherif Ahmed of Fresno State after Ahmed beat Mia King of Georgia 6-4, 6-4.
Next weekend, the Gophers pick up play at Northwestern's Wildcat Invitational in Evanston, Ill. from Oct. 4-6.
