Williams Named to Mackey Midseason Watch List

Williams, a redshirt sophomore, is one of nine underclassmen on the Mackey's Midseason Watch List, and one of five Big Ten players. Despite missing one game with an injury, he leads the Golden Gophers with 12 receptions for 225 yards (average of 18.8 yards per catch). Williams has hauled in three of Minnesota's four receiving touchdowns. He has five plays of 25 yards or more, including a career-long 52-yard reception in Saturday's win against Northwestern.
Matt Spaeth (2006) is the Gophers' most recent John Mackey Award recipient. The award is one of 21 in the National College Football Awards Association.

Maxx Williams is one of 33 names on the 2014 John Mackey Award Midseason Watch List announced Monday. The award is given annually to the nation's most outstanding collegiate tight end.
The John Mackey Award Selection Committee will vote on the award recipient, and the winner will be announced Dec. 10 and presented on Dec. 11 at the Home Depot College Football Awards Red Carpet Show on ESPNU. Mackey Award semi-finalists will be released on Nov. 17, and that list will narrow to finalists on Nov. 24.
