MINNEAPOLIS - This weekend, the Golden Gopher women's hockey team is headed to Madison, Wis., to face the Badgers in this year's Border Battle. Senior forward Meghan Lorence is excited to take on her favorite WCHA rival.

Gopher Sports: What are you looking forward to most about playing Wisconsin this weekend?

Megan Lorence: The last couple years we have seen them in the Frozen Four and we play them a lot during the season, so it's always an intense border battle. Wisconsin doesn't really like us and we don't like them, however, we have a ton of respect for each other. It's always a good, clean hockey game.

GS: How would you explain the rivalry between Minnesota and Wisconsin?

ML: It's a friendly rivalry; both our teams have had a lot of success so we really respect each other. We both have great players on our teams, so it's always a competition to see who has a better team each year. Wisconsin is my favorite rivalry in the WCHA, so I'm really looking forward to it.

GS: Do you have a favorite memory of playing Wisconsin?

ML: My freshman year we beat the Badgers in the national championship game. We both have brand new teams this year, so I'm excited to see how the two teams compete against one another.

GS: As a team, what do you believe will be necessary in order to leave Madison with a sweep?

ML: A lot of communication and bringing our A-game for both games. We need to come out with a quick start and play our systems. Wisconsin is a tough place to play, so it's necessary to start the weekend off relaxed and just play as a team.

GS: As a senior, what advice would you like to give to your younger teammates as they prepare to play the Badgers?

ML: When you play the Badgers, it's a game you will always remember no matter what the outcome is. The reason we come to Minnesota for hockey is to play great rivalry teams like this. I would tell my teammates to enjoy every single moment of it, take in the atmosphere and the competition, as well as enjoy being around your teammates.

Puck drop between the Gophers and Badgers is scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday and 3 p.m. Saturday at Wisconsin's LaBahn Arena.
