Thompson picked off another pass on the Boilermakers' last offensive play with 2:31 left in the fourth quarter. He added six tackles. Minnesota allowed 31 points in the first half, but Thompson and the defense locked down to hold Purdue to seven points in the second half.
Redshirt freshman kicker Santoso made a 52-yard field goal to give Minnesota the lead with 4:59 left in the game. He also made a 20-yard field goal in the game and was 3-for-4 on extra points (missed the second one after a false start by Minnesota).
Santoso's career-long kick is tied for the eighth longest field goal in Gophers history and is the third longest converted by a Gopher outdoors. It was also the longest field goal by a Minnesota kicker since Rhys Lloyd's make from 54 yards in 2003.
