MINNEAPOLIS - This weekend the top-ranked Golden Gophers host No. 9 North Dakota in a Friday-Saturday series. Sophomore Megan Wolfe is looking forward to facing off against one of Minnesota's greatest rivals with the excitement and support the home crowd at Ridder Arena.
Gopher Sports: What is the rivalry like between Minnesota and North Dakota?
Megan Wolfe: It's much more intense than our rivalry with some of the other schools. Beating North Dakota is always a privilege, so hopefully we can get two wins this weekend.
GS: How did it feel scoring your first two collegiate goals, including the game winner, last year against North Dakota?
MW: It was really fun and exciting, especially because it was against North Dakota, who is a really good team. I also enjoyed that game because it was the first game that I played forward.
GS: Coming off an exciting weekend at Wisconsin, how have you and the team prepared for North Dakota?
MW: After our sweep against Wisconsin, our team has a lot of confidence. We've had a great week in practice like we did last week, and everyone is excited. We'll take this weekend one game at a time.
GS: What is the most challenging part of playing a top team like North Dakota?
MW: North Dakota has really good offense, so our defensive play will be very critical.
GS: Do you feel that the fan atmosphere and privilege of playing at home will help with the series this weekend?
MW: Being at home is always a lot of fun. It's great to have our fans there cheering for us. When the students come out to support us, it is always a great atmosphere because they cheer loud and get the other fans even more excited.
Puck drop between Minnesota and North Dakota is set for 7 p.m. Friday and 4 p.m. Saturday at Ridder Arena.
