Junior Taylor Stainbrook scored two goals to lead the University of Minnesota women's soccer team to a 3-1 victory over the University of Nebraska on Thursday evening at Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium. The victory marks the third win in program history over the Huskers who hold a 7-3 lead in the all-time series. Minnesota improves to 7-6-1 on the season and 4-3-1 in conference play. 

Jaycie Johnson put the Huskers on the board first with a goal in the 31st minute of play assisted by Caroline Gray before the Maroon and Gold scored three unanswered goals to end the game 3-1. 

In the 42nd minnute of play, freshman Rachel McCloskey served the ball from the right corner to Josee Stiever who scored the equalizer by firing a shot past the keeper from 12 yards out. The goal marks Stiever's third of the season. 

Stainbrook stole the show in the second half as she scored her first goals of the season to give the Gophers a 3-1 advantage. The first of her two goals was scored in the 51st minute as Stainbrook knocked the ball into the top right corner after receiving a ball from Kolander. Seventeen mintues later, Stainbrook would find the back of the net again after she went 1-on-1 with the keeper thanks to a long ball from defender Rashida Beal. 

Minnesota lead the charge with 10 shots on goal during the 90 minute game while goalkeeper Tarah Hobbs earned three saves to bring her season total to 57. 

The Maroon and Gold will close out the weekend in a battle with the University of Illinois on Sunday afternoon. The game will be broadcast live on the Big Ten Network. Kick off is at 2:00 p.m.

GOPHER STAND OUT PERFORMANCES
Taylor Stainbrook scored her first two goals of the season in tonight's match up. The junior forward, who has tallied three assists this season, now has a total of seven points for the Maroon and Gold. 

Simone Kolander, who leads the team in points, assists and goals, notched another for the Maroon and Gold as she tallied one assist on the evening. She has a total of 7 assists and has scored six goals for a total of 17 points on the season.

Josee Stiever, who scored the equalizer, has three goals and three assists this season for a total of nine points. 

With the assist on Stainbrook's second goal, sophomore defender Rashida Beal tallied her first career point for the Maroon and Gold. Beal has started each of the Gophers fourteen games this season. 

Freshman Rachel McCloskey, who assist Josee Stiever on the Gophers first goal of the evening, has three goals and one assist to her name in her fourteen starts for the Maroon and Gold.

WHAT IS NEXT:
Minnesota will travel to Champaign, Ill. to take on the Illini in a Big Ten Network showdown on Sunday afternoon. The game is set to kick off at 2:06 p.m. CT.
