MINNEAPOLIS - University of Minnesota women's tennis head coach Chuck Merzbacher announced the signing of AnneMarie Emme to a National Letter of Intent Friday afternoon. Emme will join the Gophers beginning in the 2015-16 season.

Emme of Glenview, Ill. is a four-year varsity letterwinner and team captain at Glenbrook South High School, the alma mater of current Gopher freshman Caroline Ryba. Emme is a two-time all-state honoree and a four-time all-conference selection.

"We are very excited to announce the signing of AnneMarie Emme," Merzbacher said. "She has a very strong junior record and ranking. She is very athletic and her skills will allow her to be a two-point player in college (singles and doubles)."

According to tennisrecruiting.net, Emme was ranked as high as 75th nationally in singles and currently stands at 101st in the country and fourth in the state of Illinois. She also had a No. 1 Midwest doubles ranking at G16s.

In addition to her high school accolades, Emme was a member of the 2014 Marian Wood Baird Cup G18 championship team, reached the final at the 2012 Midwest Closed Doubles and has won multiple USTA Midwest and national doubles titles at the G16 and G18 levels.

She is a two-time recipient of the USTA Sportsmanship award.

"She has won numerous doubles events and is considered one of the top doubles players in the nation," Merzbacher said. "She has a big game with big shots along with the ability to create from anywhere on the court."
