MINNEAPOLIS - University of Minnesota women's tennis head coach Chuck Merzbacher announced the signing of Caitlyn Merzbacher to an acceptance of admission Thursday afternoon. Caitlyn Merzbacher, an Eden Prairie, Minn. native, will join the Gophers beginning in the 2015-16 season.

Caitlyn Merzbacher, the daughter of third-year head coach Chuck Merzbacher, currently ranks 146th in the nation and second in the state of Minnesota according to tennisrecruiting.net. Last month, she successfully defended her Minnesota State High School Class AA singles championship, representing Edina High School. Her high school career featured four team state titles--two with the Hornets and two for Jerome High School in Dublin, Ohio.

"I am proud to announce the commitment of Caitlyn Merzbacher," said Chuck Merzbacher. "I am quite proud of Caitlyn and her quick rise, performing at the national junior level, claiming four team state titles and winning back-to-back state championships in singles."

After a pair of all-conference seasons in Ohio, Caitlyn Merzbacher went on to captain a Hornets squad that has now won 18-consecutive state championships, earning two more all-conference selections in the process. In addition to her high school tennis accomplishments, she was also a National Open doubles champion and was selected to the Northern Section Fed Cup team.

As an honor-roll student throughout high school, she added an academic all-state award to her resume in 2014.

"We always want to keep the best players in the state and she is the top player in Minnesota," coach Merzbacher said. "I look forward to having the ability to coach my daughter at the highest level of competition."
