THE OPENING TIP - QUICK NOTES
• The University of Minnesota women's basketball team hits the road for the first time this season when it takes on Memphis at Elma Roane Fieldhouse Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m.
• The contest will be streamed live on Memphis Tiger Network, while fans can listen to the Golden Gopher women's basketball radio team of Corbu Stathes and Lynnette Sjoquist on KBEM Jazz 88.5 FM. Live stats will be available on Gophersports.com and live updates can be found on the Gophers' twitter page - @GophersWBB.
• Minnesota makes the trip to Memphis with a 2-0 record on the year following a 93-76 win over Cleveland State Wednesday afternoon. Three players posted double-doubles in the win (Rachel Banham - 27 points / 13 assists, Shae Kelley - 21 points / 14 rebounds and Amanda Zahui B. - 15 points / 14 rebounds).
• Rachel Banham's 13 assists in the win over the Vikings were a career-high for the senior and the most assists in a single game for a Gopher since Nikki Coates dished out 14 assists on Feb. 6, 1994.
• Memphis is coming off a 58-60 loss at Illinois Thursday night, which moved its record to 2-1 on the year.
• Mooriah Rowser and Ariel Hearn each scored in double figures for the Tigers with 18 and 13 points, respectively. Asianna Fuqua-Bey and Brianna Wright led Memphis with eight rebounds apiece.
• Tigers' head coach Melissa McFerrin has ties to both first-year head coach Marlene Stollings and the Golden Gopher program. McFerrin was an assistant coach at Ohio State from 1990-97, which included the two seasons in which Stollings played for the Buckeyes. McFerrin was also an associate head coach at Minnesota from 2002-04 when the Gophers went to the Sweet Sixteen and the Final Four.
• Sunday will mark the third meeting between the Gophers and the Tigers, with each team picking up a win in the series. Minnesota defeated Memphis, 84-76, in the teams' last meeting on Nov. 27, 1982.
• The Gophers are receiving 12 votes in this week's AP Top-25 Poll after posting a 109-60 victory over Southeastern Louisiana, a game in which three players scored 20 or more points for the first time since 2003 and Rachel Banham became the fourth Gopher in program history to score 2,000 career points.
• Minnesota scored 100+ points for the first time in 12 years against the Lady Lions. The squad last scored 100 points in a 116-73 win over IPFW, also a season-opener, at Williams Arena on Nov. 23, 2002.
• With 2,038 career points, Banham needs seven points to overtake Laura Coenen for the No. 3 spot on Minnesota's career record chart.
• Shae Kelley was named to the first Big Ten Player of the Week Honor Roll of the season Monday after posting her first double-double as a Gopher with a team-high 21 points and 10 rebounds vs. Southeastern Louisiana.
• UP NEXT: Minnesota will return home for a 7 p.m. contest versus Southern on Tuesday, Nov. 25.
