FORT MYERS, FLA. - Shae Kelley posted her fourth double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds, but it was not enough as the University of Minnesota (4-1) women's basketball team suffered its first loss of the season versus Vanderbilt (5-0), 71-54, in the first round of the Gulf Coast Showcase in Fort Myers, Fla., Friday night.

The Gophers will face College of Charleston Saturday at 1:30 p.m. CT in the second round of play at Germain Arena.

Carlie Wagner also scored in double figures for Minnesota, posting 11 points and two steals, while Kayla Hirt added eight points and five rebounds.

As a team, the Maroon and Gold shot just .262 from the field and .136 from three-point range, while the Commodores registered a .436 team field goal percentage and a .500 three-point field goal percentage.

Wagner hit back-to-back three-pointers to open the game and put the Gophers ahead early. Minnesota would go ahead by as many as eight points, but a 13-0 run from the Commodores put the Maroon and Gold behind by five points with 8:03 to play in the half.

After falling down by as many as six points, the Gophers managed to head into the locker room at halftime trailing by just four points, 24-20.

Neither team shot efficiently from the floor through the first 20 minutes of play, with Minnesota posting a .216 field goal percentage compared to Vanderbilt's .357 shooting percentage.

The Commodores used an 18-4 run to open the second half, which put the Gophers behind by 18 with 15 minutes to play. Minnesota put together a run of its own to pull within seven points, 47-40, at 9:19. But, Vanderbilt pulled away once again and the Gophers weren't able to recover.
