In its countdown of the top 25 players of the 2014-15 season, espnW ranked University of Minnesota senior guard Rachel Banham No. 5 on its list, as voted on by Charlie Creme, Graham Hays, Michelle Smith and Mechelle Voepel .
Joining Banham in the top five were Breanna Stewart of UConn, Jewell Loyd of Notre Dame, Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis of UConn and Tiffany Mitchell of South Carolina.
The Preseason Big Ten Player of the Year was the top-ranked Big Ten player on the list, with Samantha Logic of Iowa ranking in at No. 12, Rachel Theriot of Nebraska ranking in at No. 13 and Ariel Powers of Michigan State ranking in at No. 20.
The Lakeville, Minn. native, who recently earned recognition by the Associated Press, enters her senior campaign just seven points away from becoming the fourth Gopher in program history to score 2,000 career points, while she is also on pace to break at least six program career records, including Lindsay Whalen's scoring record of 2,285 career points.
The Gophers open the 2014-15 season under first-year head coach Marlene Stollings on Friday, Nov. 14 against Southeastern Louisiana at Williams Arena.
