The University of Minnesota women's basketball team continued to prove its commitment to excellence in the classroom by having seven student-athletes named to the Winter Academic All-Big Ten Team, as announced by the league office Wednesday.
To be eligible for Academic All-Big Ten selection, student-athletes must be letterwinners in at least their second academic year at their institution and carry a career grade-point average (GPA) of 3.0 or better.
The Gophers who received Big Ten honors include Mikayla Bailey (undeclared), Kayla Hirt (sociology/criminal deviance), Jackie Johnson (undeclared), Shayne Mullaney (undeclared), Sari Noga (mortuary science), Micaella Riche (kinesiology) and Amanda Zahui B. (undeclared).
During head coach Pam Borton's 12 seasons, the Maroon and Gold has totaled 81 Academic All-Big Ten honorees, which is the most of any Big Ten Conference women's basketball program, and the Gophers have also earned a 3.0 in every year of Borton's coaching tenure.
