Gophers Close Out Spring Season

The University of Minnesota volleyball team concluded the 2014 spring season hosting a seven-team tournament at the Sports Pavilion, Saturday, April 26. With action starting at 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., the Gophers welcomed Concordia St. Paul, Minnesota Crookston, Minnesota Duluth, North Dakota State, South Dakota, Northern Iowa and Wisconsin.
Playing approximately 50 minutes each match, teams played two sets to 25 points (win by two). Minnesota's first competition was against South Dakota, Gopher assistant coach Matt Houk's former team. The Gophers won the two sets, 25-14, 25-11. Minnesota then faced Wisconsin at 1 p.m., as it fell, 25-20, 25-15, to the 2013 NCAA runner-up team. The Gophers closed out their spring tournament with a 25-9, 25-18 win over Minnesota Crookston.
A large crowd was on hand, including alums Ashley Wittman and Tori Dixon. Wittman is currently coaching and Dixon just returned to Minneapolis after playing professional volleyball in Azerbaijan.
Free Coach Clinic
Gopher volleyball head coach Hugh McCutcheon and staff will host a free volleyball coaching clinic, Saturday, May 3 on the Sports Pavilion court. The clinic will run from 9:30 a.m., to noon, no registration required. Show up and enjoy!
