For the first time since he became the head coach at the University of Minnesota, Hugh McCutcheon opened the Sports Pavilion doors for a free coaching clinic on Saturday, May 3.
A day coming off a speaking engagement at the American Volleyball Coaches Association, McCutcheon welcomed over 120 coaches from all levels of the game. After a welcome at 9:30 a.m., McCutcheon went through approaches on how to coach passing, setting, serving and the attack approaches. During each segment, he opened it to questions. The last 15 minutes were spent in open question/answer sessions about the game in general and how to handle not just proper techniques, how to teach the game.
With spring volleyball wrapping up on Friday, May 2, the Gophers will be on hiatus until they report to camp in August. Minnesota returns 10 letterwinners from last year's Sweet 16 team, while it adds transfer Erica Handley and incoming freshmen Maddie Beal, Alyssa Goehner, Molly Lohman and Dalianliz Rosado.
