Gophers Recognized on ITA All-Academic Teams

SKILLMAN, N.J. - The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced its 2014 All-Academic Teams Wednesday afternoon. The University of Minnesota women's tennis team was a recipient of the ITA All-Academic Team award, while Yuliana Umanets, Tereza Brichacova, and Paula Rincon Otero were honored as ITA Scholar-Athletes.
The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA member program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). ITA Scholar-Athletes must have a grade point average of at least 3.50 for the current academic year.
Umanets, who graduated with a degree in business and marketing eduation, and finance major Rincon Otero were also named ITA Scholar-Athletes in 2013. Brichacova, a first-time honoree, is double majoring in journalism and German. All three players were also Academic All-Big Ten honorees, while Umanets and Brichacova received Big Ten Distinguished Scholar accolades.
As a team, the Gophers earned the ITA All-Academic Team award for the ninth consecutive year and garnered the Minnesota Women's Athletics Team Academic Award for the sixth year in a row.
