GopherSports: What made you decide to come to Minnesota?
Devon Wright: I actually found out that I had family up here that I didn't know about, so that made me feel good. Minnesota recruited me hard and stayed loyal to me, so that helped me make my decision.
GS: How has your role on the team changed over the course of your career? Are you more of a leader now that you're a senior?
DW: My role (as a player) hasn't changed too much. I just try to help the team and do what I can to make my teammates better. As a senior, you do have to be more of a leader and get everyone ready for the games. You need to talk to the freshmen and lead them in the right direction.
GS: You already have a degree in youth studies, but are continuing your education this fall. What are you studying now and do you have any future plans?
DW: I am going into another undergrad program in recreation and leadership to finish off my last year here. I want to see how this year goes and try to get ready for pro day. I'm taking everything one day at a time.
GS: How does it feel going into the season already having earned a degree?
DW: It feels great to have finished up my degree before my last year of playing football. The load is lighter now, but I still have to work hard, stay focused, and do what I have to do.
GS: So far, what is your most memorable moment in your time as a Gopher?
DW: My most memorable moment at Minnesota came when we beat Nebraska for the first time in more than 50 years. Beating Iowa and Penn State in the trophy games also stands out.
GS: What is your favorite pregame meal?
DW: That's a hard question. I'd have to say the pasta bar.
GS: Being from Florida, how long did it take you to get used to living in Minnesota? What do you miss the most about home?
DW: It took a while-about six months-to get used to the new environment, but it was good to get a chance to meet some new people. I always miss the nice breeze, the palm trees, the beaches, and the nice south Florida sun.
GS: What is your favorite part about TCF Bank Stadium?
DW: I'd say the locker room. I've been up to the press box and I also like that, but the locker room is definitely my favorite part.
GS: When you were in high school, when did you know that you could play Division I football?
DW: I thought I always had the talent and I was always fast. Everyone told me I could play Division I. I just kept working hard and pushing myself because I wanted to make it to the next level from where I came from.
GS: What are your hobbies away from football and school?
DW: I like to sit back, relax, and watch Netflix, listen to music, or hang out with my friends.
GS: What are your expectations for this year's Gopher Football team?
DW: Each year we've improved more and more and I expect us to make it far.
GS: You started your college career as a running back before switching to wide receiver and Brian Anderson has coached you at both positions. What is it like working with him?
DW: It's always been good. He's laid back, but he wants you to do the right things, stay focused, and work hard. He still wants a lot out of you.
