WCHA Release

MINNEAPOLIS - The WCHA has named junior Hannah Brandt this week's Offensive Player of the Week. Brandt led the Gophers with four points on three goals and one assist as No. 2 Minnesota took five of six WCHA points from No. 3 Wisconsin last weekend with a 4-1 win followed by a 1-1 overtime tie and 1-0 shootout win at Ridder Arena.

This week marks Brandt's third player of the week award of the season after being honored following a nine-point performance against St. Cloud State (Dec. 5-6) and a seven-point series against North Dakota (Oct. 24-25).

In Saturday's 4-1 win over the Badgers, Brandt had three points on two goals and one assist. She scored the game-winning goal when she put the Gophers ahead 2-1 in the final five minutes of the second period before setting up a goal by Dani Cameranesi and scoring another of her own in the third period to put the game away. Brandt had seven shots on goal and won 14-of-19 faceoffs.

The Vadnais Heights, Minn., native then scored the game-tying goal in Sunday's 1-1 tie and scored the lone goal in the 1-0 shootout win. Brandt led Minnesota with six shots on goal, blocked two shots and won 19-of-24 faceoffs.

Brandt ranks second in the nation and leads the WCHA with 45 points. Her 2.05 points per game is third in the NCAA and first in the league. She lead the WCHA with 21 goals and 24 assists as well.

The junior center is also eight points away from becoming the seventh Gopher all-time to reach the 200-point mark with 192 career points on 77 goals and 115 assists. In Minnesota history, Brandt ranks fifth with 115 career assists, eighth with 192 career points and ninth with 77 career goals.

Up next for the Gophers is a home-and-home series with Minnesota State (2-17-1, 0-13-1-0 WCHA). Minnesota hosts the Mavericks at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 16 before traveling to Mankato, Minn., to conclude the series at 4 p.m. Saturday afternoon.
