The 2015 Minnesota softball team got its spring practices underway Tuesday at the Gibson/Nagurski Football Practice Facility. The Gophers went through some conditioning testing and worked on hitting, pitching and fielding.

This season, the defending Big Ten Tournament champion Gophers return 16 players from a year ago while welcoming freshmen Danielle Parlich, Dani Wagner, Kylie Stober, Sydney Dwyer, Erika Rozell and Ellie Cowger.

Among the returnees from the first Minnesota softball squad to reach an NCAA super regional are four 2014 NFCA All-Region honorees and three First Team All-Big Ten selections. Headlining the roster will be two-time All-American Kaitlyn Richardson, Big Ten Pitcher of the Year and Big Ten Freshman of the Year Sara Groenewegen and Tyler Walker, who has earned three all-conference nods.

Fifth-year head coach Jessica Allister enters 2015 with a 142-77 overall record that includes a 49-37 mark in Big Ten play. In her tenure, the Gophers have a winning record against 55 different opponents.

Minnesota begins its season Feb. 6 at the Sportco Kickoff Classic in Las Vegas, Nev. when it plays Washington and Cal State Bakersfield.
