WCHA Honors Bona, Pannek with Weekly Awards

MINNEAPOLIS - Senior Rachael Bona (Coon Rapids, Minn.) and freshman Kelly Pannek (Plymouth, Minn.) have been named WCHA Players of the Week for their play in Minnesota's 10-0 and 5-1 wins over St. Lawrence.
WCHA Co-Offensive Player of the Week: Rachael Bona
Senior Rachael Bona was named this week's Co-Offensive Player of the Week after recording her second career hat trick in Sunday's 10-0 win, netting three goals - including the game-winner just 1:20 into the game - on six shots. Bona then scored a pair of late third-period goals Tuesday to break open a close game in an eventual 5-1 Gophers win. With her consecutive three-point games, Bona now is third in the WCHA and sixth nationally with 29 points (11g-18a) on the season.
WCHA Rookie of the Week: Kelly Pannek
Pannek earned her third WCHA Rookie of the Week award of her career after recording six points on four goals and two assists against St. Lawrence. She scored the second hat trick of her career and added two assists for a career-best five points in Sunday's 10-0 win before scoring her fourth goal of the series in Tuesday's 5-1 win.
Pannek leads the nation's rookie in scoring with 26 points; her 1.24 points per game are second among all NCAA freshmen. Pannek has 18 points (7g-11a) during a team-best seven-game point streak.
Bona, Pannek and the Gophers return to WCHA action by hosting No. 3 Wisconsin (17-2-1, 13-2-1-0 WCHA) this Saturday and Sunday. The border rivals face off at 4:30 p.m. CT Saturday and 2 p.m. CT Sunday.
