Leidner Joins Foggie In 20/20 Club

Mitch Leidner joined Rickey Foggie as the only Minnesota quarterbacks to throw for 20 career touchdowns and run for 20 career touchdowns when he plunged into the end zone from one yard out against Nebraska. Leidner, who has played in 29 games, now 20 rushing touchdowns and 21 passing touchdowns in his career.
Foggie wore the Maroon and Gold in 43 career games from 1984-1987. He passed for 33 career touchdowns and holds the career rushing touchdowns by a quarterback with 24. The former Gopher quarterback ran for multiple touchdowns in six games and is the school's record holder for rushing yards by a quarterback with 2,150.
The South Carolina native came to Minnesota following a 1-10 season and helped lead the Gophers to a 4-7 mark as a true freshman. Foggie and the Gophers finished 1985 with a 7-5 record and beat Clemson in the Independence Bowl. Minnesota finished 6-6 in 1986 and 6-5 in 1987.
Leidner, who is from Lakeville, Minn., found success in running packages his redshirt freshman year in 2013, as he ran for a team-leading seven touchdowns and threw for three. Leidner and the Gophers finished 8-5 that year, which was their best record since 2003.
Leidner started 12 of 13 games last year and tied the single-season rushing touchdown record for a Minnesota quarterback when he found the end zone 10 times (also passed for 11 touchdowns). Minnesota again finished 8-5 and played in its January 1 bowl game since 1962, when the team competed in the Citrus Bowl.
This season, Leidner has passed for seven scores and rushed for another three.
