Maroon Bests Gold, 78-51, in Intrasquad Scrimmage

MINNEAPOLIS - The two seniors on the Minnesota men's basketball roster combined for 39 points, leading the Maroon team to a 71-58 victory over the Gold team in the Gophers' intrasquad scrimmage on Sunday evening at Williams Arena.

Shooting 8-of-12 from the field and a 5-of-6 mark from the free throw line, guard Carlos Morris led alls corers with 22 points, adding eight rebounds, five assists and two steals. Teammate Joey King added 17 points and nine rebounds with two assists, while the veteran-laden Maroon team got double-digit scoring from sophomore Nate Mason (17 points) along with 14 points from freshman Jordan Murphy.

For the Gold team, which was comprised nearly entirely of newcomers, freshman Kevin Dorsey led the way with 20 points, adding a team-high four assists along with two steals. Junior Reggie Lynch, who will sit out the upcoming season after transferring from Illinois State, posted 14 points and nine rebounds along with a block and a steal, while freshman Dupree McBrayer also reached double figures with 13 points.

The Maroon team held a 51-to-40 percent field goal shooting advantage and won the rebounding and turnover battles by 32-26 and 14-8, respectively. Following the game, the Gophers met with fans and signed autographs in the Williams Arena concourse.

Prior to the scrimmage, a moment of silence was observed to mark the passing of former Gopher great Philip "Flip" Saunders.

Minnesota will host two exhibition games, on November 1 against UM-Crookston and on November 6 versus Southwest Minnesota State, before the season opens officially on Friday, November 13 at home hosting UMKC.
