Tapp, Seliger-Swenson Receive B1G Awards

Junior middle blocker Hannah Tapp and freshman setter Samantha Seliger-Swenson both received Big Ten weekly honors, announced today from the league office. Tapp was named a Co-Player of the Week, while Seliger-Swenson garnered both setter of the week and co-freshman of the week. It is Tapp's first Big Ten Player of the Week honor and sixth for Seliger-Swenson this year.
Tapp helped the Gophers to back-to-back road wins over No. 3 Nebraska and Iowa last weekend. Over the course of the weekend, Tapp had 24 kills to average 3.43 per set, all while hitting .444. Last Friday against the No. 3 Huskers, Tapp had a career-high 17 kills, while she committed just three errors in 28 attempts and hit .500. She also added four block assists. On Saturday, Tapp followed with a seven-kill performance in 17 attempts and had just one error in the three-set win over Iowa. Tapp also added four block assists and two digs. On the season, the junior has played in 71 sets and established 179 kills.
Seliger-Swenson had 94 assists over the weekend to help the Gophers to back-to-back road wins at Nebraska and at Iowa. Against the Huskers, Seliger-Swenson added 54 assists (13.4 per set), 14 digs, a solo block and two block assists. The 54 assist marked the most for her in a four-set match this season and third-highest for her in her young Gopher career. She followed with a 40-assist performance, which tied her 3-set career best in the win over Iowa. As she led the Gophers to a .324 hitting clip against Iowa, Seliger-Swenson also had six digs and two block assists. The weekly honors marks the second time this year she's received Big Ten setter of the week honors and fourth rookie of the week accolades.
The Golden Gophers host their next four matches, starting Wednesday night against Indiana. Match time is set for 7 p.m. Minnesota welcomes No. 19 Purdue to the Sports Pavilion on Sunday, 2 p.m. The Gophers then host Michigan State and Michigan, Nov. 6-7, as both match times are scheduled for 7 p.m. starts.
