Gophers-UMC Preview

Oct. 30, 2015
The 2015-16 Minnesota men's basketball team gets its unofficial beginning on Sunday afternoon as the Gophers will host Minnesota Crookston in an exhibition at Williams Arena.
Sunday's game pits the Gophers against the Division II Golden Eagles, who feature 10 newcomers and just two returnees from last year's squad. After graduating six seniors, this year's UMC team was picked to finish 16th in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference's preseason coaches poll.
The Gophers feature a youth-laden lineup that returns three starters from last year, including seniors Joey King and Carlos Morris. Besides the senior duo, guards Nate Mason and Mike Lukashewich along with forwards Charles Buggs, Gaston Diedhiou and center Bakary Konaté represent the veterans.
Five freshman will take the court for the Maroon and Gold this season in guards Dupree McBrayer, Kevin Dorsey and Stephon Sharp along with forward Jordan Murphy. Transfers Davonte Fitzgerald (Texas A&M) and Reggie Lynch (Illinois State) will redshirt the upcoming season due to NCAA rules.
Following Sunday's game, the Gophers will host one more in-state foe in exhibition action, as Minnesota welcomes Southwest Minnesota State on Friday night at 7 p.m. The season officially tips off one week later on November 13, as Minnesota takes on UMKC at 8 p.m. at the Barn.
