GAME DAY TID-BITS
• The University of Minnesota men's basketball team continues its season-opening two-game homestand against Louisiana-Monroe.
• The Gophers were victorious in their season opener against UMKC, using a dominant second half to pull away from the Kangaroos.
• Minnesota won both of its exhibition games last week, defeating Minnesota Crookston and Southwest Minnesota State by 17-point margins.
• The Gophers welcome five newcomers to the active roster this season, all freshmen in guards Kevin Dorsey, Ahmad Gilbert, Dupree McBrayer and Stephon Sharp along with forward Jordan Murphy. Minnesota's five-person freshman class is its largest since the 2010-11 season.
• Against UMKC the Gophers had five blocked shots in the first half and equaled last season's high (vs. St. John's) with a total of seven. Bakary Konate led the Gophers with three blocks, all in the first half, while Charles Buggs had a pair of rejections, and Nate Mason and Jordan Murphy each had one.
• Senior Joey King tied his career-high with six three-pointers and established a career-best with 22 points in 28 minutes. King finished the game 7-of-10 from the field, including 6-of-9 from behind the three-point line. His previous career-high for points had been 21 points on two occasions, most recently versus Missouri State on Jan. 5, 2013, when he was a member of the Drake Bulldogs. King also had six treys during Minnesota's 80-68 win versus Rutgers in the Big Ten Tournament on March 11, 2015.
• The University of Minnesota men's basketball team will welcome three new members starting in 2016, as guard Amir Coffey (Hopkins, Minn./Hopkins HS), forward Eric Curry (Little Rock, Ark./Southwest Christian Academy) and guard/forward Michael Hurt (Rochester, Minn./John Marshall HS) signed their National Letters of Intent on Wednesday. The trio represents the highest-rated signing class in Pitino's tenure, as the group is ranked 17th nationally by 247Sports and 20th in the nation by Scout.com. Both publications have listed the Gophers recruiting class as the third-highest ranked in the Big Ten.
