IMPROVED START
During Friday's season-opening win over UMKC, Minnesota struggled in the early stages of the game, making just two of its first 14 field goal attempts and missing its first 10 three-pointers. This afternoon, the Gophers got off to a much better start, as they made eight of their first 14 attempts, including 2-of-5 from beyond the arc, and 8-of-10 free throws. Minnesota's lead was nine points, 12-3, less than five minutes into the game, and the Gophers led by as many as 15 points in the first half.

FREE THROWS
On a day when the Gophers weren't having much success from the field (37.9 percent field goals, 3-22 3FG), Minnesota fared very well at the free throw line. The Gophers made 20-of-22 (.909) attempts at the charity stripe, including a perfect 10-of-10 in the second half. Joey King established new career-highs for both free throws made and attempted, going 9-of-10 at the line, while Kevin Dorsey (4-4), Carlos Morris (2-2), Charles Buggs (2-2), Jordan Murphy (2-2) and Nate Mason (1-1) all had perfect days at the line.

ANSWERING A RUN WITH A RUN
With 10:35 remaining in the game, ULM began a 10-2 run that led to the Warhawks' lone lead of the afternoon, a 51-50 advantage with 6:44 left. But the Gophers responded with an 11-0 run over the next 2:57 to push the lead back to 10 points at 61-51. Kevin Dorsey had five points during the run, including his first collegiate three-pointer, while Joey King added four points. Minnesota ended the game on a 17-5 run over the final 6:25 to record the 11-point victory.

BACK-TO-BACK FOR KING
With a game-high 20 points this afternoon, Joey King became the first Minnesota player since Andre Hollins to have consecutive 20-point games. King opened the season with a career-high 22 points versus UMKC on Friday night, and made 5-of-10 field goals and 9-of-10 free throws to reach 20 points today. King also led the Gophers with eight rebounds in 27 minutes. Hollins had 20 points at Iowa on Feb. 12, 2015, then followed with 23 points at Indiana on Feb. 15. Hollins also is the most recent Gophers player to have three-straight 20-point games, achieving the feat during Jan. 17-24, 2015.

DOUBLE-DIGITS FOR DORSEY
Kevin Dorsey came off the bench for his first career double-figure scoring game, as he finished with 11 points to go along with six rebounds, two assists and a steal in 20 minutes. Dorsey made 3-of-6 field goals, including his first career trey, while going 4-of-4 at the free throw line. Fellow freshman Jordan Murphy had six points, five rebounds and a pair of assists for the Gophers.
