Gophers in the NFL: Week 8

Minnesota Vikings punt return specialist Marcus Sherels had a massive game against the Chicago Bears. The former Gopher cornerback took a punt 65 yards for a touchdown in the first quarter. With this return, Sherels owns the record for most punt return touchdowns in Vikings history with three. He returned three punts for 75 yards and one touchdown as the Vikings defeated the Bears, 23-20.

Minnesota's all-time leading receiver Eric Decker had another stellar performance for the New York Jets. Decker recorded six catches for 60 yards and a touchdown against the Oakland Raiders. Decker leads the team with five touchdown catches this season. The Jets lost to the Raiders, 34-20.

Ra'Shede Hageman, a former Minnesota defensive tackle, played on defense for the Atlanta Falcons as they took on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Falcons lost in overtime, 23-20.

Veteran tight end Matt Spaeth saw snaps on offense for the Pittsburgh Steelers against a division rival, the Cincinnati Bengals. The former Mackey Award winner hauled in his first catch of the season for four yards as the Steelers fell to the Bengals, 16-10.

Rookie Maxx Williams of the Baltimore Ravens was active a week after being injured. He did not record a statistic against the San Diego Chargers as the Ravens won, 23-20.

Linebacker Damien Wilson of the Dallas Cowboys did not record a statistic as the Cowboys were defeated by the Seattle Seahawks, 13-12.

Running back David Cobb saw the practice field for the first time since his calf injury. He did not play in the Tennessee Titans loss against the Houston Texans but he will look to make his NFL debut next week.

Former Gopher quarterback and Buffalo Bills tight end Marqueis Gray is on injured reserve with a broken forearm.
