Day One at Four Nations Cup

MINNEAPOLIS — Seven Gophers took the ice today as the 2015 Four Nations Cup began in Sundsvall, Sweden. Four Gophers faced off in Wednesday's first game as current Gopher Sarah Potomak, alum Sarah Davis and Canada defeated alumni Noora Raty and Mira Jalosuo with Finland. Alumni Megan Bozek, Gigi Marvin and Anne Schleper then helped the United States defeat Sweden, 6-2, in the second game of the day.
Canada 2, Finland 0
Canada's 2-0 victory over Finland kicked off the 2015 Four Nations Cup in Sundsvall, Sweden Wednesday morning. Potomak was one of five players on Team Canada making her Four Nations debut, and she tallied an assist on Natalie Spooner's goal during the first game of the tournament.
Three Gopher alumni also skated in the game as Noora Raty started in goal for Finland and made 24 saves on the 26 shots she faced. Fellow alums Mira Jalosuo (Finland) and Sarah Davis (Canada) also represented their countries.
United States 6, Sweden 2
The United States topped Sweden by a score of 6-2 in the second game of the Four Nations Cup in Sundsvall, Sweden Wednesday afternoon. Gopher alumni Megan Bozek, Gigi Marvin and Anne Schleper all represented the Red, White and Blue.
Team USA was forced to come from behind during the game and scored five unanswered goals after tying the game at 2-2 in the first period. Jocelyne Lamoureux and Hilary Knight each had two goals, while Meghan Duggan and Brianna Decker both tallied one goal apiece.
2015 Four Nations Cup Schedule and Results
The Four Nations Cup runs Wednesday through Sunday with three days of preliminary games to determine the gold and bronze-medal game matchups on Sunday.
