Following a career game last weekend, sophomore Brandon Lingen was tabbed as the John Mackey Tight End of the Week, announced by the John Mackey Award on Wednesday.

Lingen hauled in a personal-best five catches for 111 yards against the nation's top defense in Michigan on Saturday night. That mark of receiving yards was the first time a Minnesota tight end totaled 100-plus yards since Ben Utecht in 2001.

Lingen's 111 yards was also the third-highest total ever produced by a Gophers tight end since 1950. Lay Carroll reeled in 145 yards against Michigan State in 1945, while Glenn Bourquin tallied 123 yards versus Michigan in 1979.

For the season, Lingen is fourth on Minnesota's receptions list with 15 grabs for 220 yards and two touchdowns, which trails only KJ Maye (three) for the Gophers lead.

The 2015 John Mackey Award recipient will be announced on December 9, 2015 and then presented live on December 10, 2015 at The Home Depot College Football Awards Red Carpet Show on ESPNU.
