MINNEAPOLIS — Head coach Brad Frost discusses this Friday's U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame Museum Women's Faceoff Classic between the No. 3 Gophers and St. Cloud State at the Roseville Skating Center.
On the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame Museum game…
On the location of the U.S. Hockey HOF Museum game…
Frost: We actually choose them. We’ve had so many players come through the Roseville girls program and play here at the University, we wanted to get back there and kind of honor those players. Lee Stecklein currently plays for us, and Hanna Brodt from St. Cloud grew up playing there as well. So, we thought that would be a good idea to combine that with Winny Brodt and Bethany Brausen’s girls' hockey day on Saturday.
On Lee Stecklein’s role on the team…
Frost: She’s just so consistent. She’s a rock for us and one of the best people you’ll ever meet. On the ice, she’s been a force for us. She’s starting to do a few more things offensively on the power play, which we’ve wanted her to do. But defensively I don’t think there’s anybody better in the country. Being six foot and real good like that, she’s really tough to get around.
There’s a reason she’s a captain for us as a junior and was an assistant captain for us last year as a redshirt sophomore. People look to her for leadership and guidance; they go to her when they have problems, or when they just need to talk. She’s someone who’s always open and readily available for them.
