Gophers Host Minnesota Challenge

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - 17 teams will pack the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center this weekend for the annual Minnesota Challenge. Competing among the Gophers are Carlton College, College of Saint Mary, Gustavus Adolphus College, Moorhead, Mankato, Morningside College, South Dakota State Univtersity, St. Catherine University, St. Cloud State University, St. Olaf University, University of North Dakota, University of South Dakota, University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire, University of Wisconsin - Steven's Point, Hamline and St. Kate's.

The meet will serve as a final competition of the year for those not moving on to the Big Ten Championships, to see their progress from throughout the season. Other competitors will use the event as a final tuneup before heading into the championships season.

Session I: Friday, Feb. 6, 6:00 p.m. CT
200 freestyle relay
500 freestyle
200 IM
50 freestyle

Session II: Saturday, Feb. 7, 11:00 a.m. CT
200 medley relay
400 IM
100 butterfly
200 freestyle
100 breaststroke
100 backstroke
800 free relay

Session III: Saturday, Feb. 7, 6:00 p.m. CT
200 backstroke
100 freestyle
200 breaststroke
200 butterfly
400 free relay
*1650 freestyle will begin at 4:00 p.m.

Both one-meter and three-meter diving events will contested this weekend as well. Women's one-meter and men's three-meter will begin Saturday, Feb. 7 at 9:00 a.m. and women's three-meter and men's one-meter will start later that day at 3:00 p.m.

IN THE RANKS
The Minnesota men's team is currently ranked 18th according to the CSCAA (College Swimming Coaches Association of America) on February 5. The Gophers ended their dual season with a 6-3 record, 3-1 in the Big Ten.

The Gopher women are currently ranked in the number 19 spot (as of January 29). With a 8-1 dual season record, their sole loss came from twelfth-ranked North Carolina State. The Gophers were undefeated in Big Ten competition with a 4-0 record.
