GAME DAY TID-BITS
• Minnesota closes out the regular season on Senior Day Sunday afternoon against Penn State. It is the final home game for five Gopher seniors: guards Andre Hollins, DeAndre Mathieu and Kendal Shell, and centers Elliott Eliason and Maurice Walker.
• With a win and a loss by Northwestern, the Gophers can clinch a single-bye in next week's Big Ten Tournament.
• Penn State, who defeated Minnesota in State College on Jan. 28, is coming off a 77-67 home loss to Ohio State.
• Minnesota will try to avoid being swept by the Nittany Lions for just the second time in series history (2011).
• The Gophers win over the Spartans on Feb. 26 was their first in East Lansing since 1997 (later vacated) and their first win over a top-25 opponent this season. The victory also guaranteed Minnesota's eighth consecutive season with a winning overall record.
• Senior Andre Hollins sits in fourth on the Gophers career scoring list with 1,739 points, needing 38 points to tie Randy Breuer for third in the record books.
• Over the last 10 games, senior point guard DeAndre Mathieu has dished 26 assists with just four turnovers, an assist/turnover ratio of +6.5.
• As of March 6, the Gophers are fourth in the nation in steals per game (9.8) and fifth in turnover margin (5.0), leading the Big Ten in those categories. Minnesota is 16th in Division I in assists per game (15.8). DeAndre Mathieu is 27th nationally in steals (2.0) while Andre Hollins is 25th in 3-point shooting (.425).
• Mathieu leads the B1G in steals and senior Maurice Walker is second in field goal shooting (.576). Junior Carlos Morris (1.8) and freshman Nate Mason (1.8) are second and third in steals. Andre Hollins is 13th in scoring among conference players at 14.3 points per game, while Walker's 6.5 rebounds per game is seventh.
• In Big Ten play, Hollins is averaging a team high 14.8 points per game (B1G: T-11th) while Walker is posting a team-high 7.2 rebounds per game (B1G: 5th) and 1.6 steals per game in B1G games, second in the Big Ten. Hollins's 45 3-pointers in conference play are the second most by any Big Ten player, as of March 6.
