Parlich Named Big Ten Freshman of the Week

ROSEMONT, Ill. - Minnesota softball student-athlete Danielle Parlich was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week, the conference announced Monday afternoon. Parlich's award marked the fifth time this season a Gopher softball player garnered a weekly accolade from the league.

The Queen Creek, Ariz. native earned the conference plaudit for the second time this season. She shared Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors with Michigan State's Kristina Zalewski in the first week of the season.

Parlich was one of the Gophers' main contributors on offense at the Louisville Slugger Classic in Stanford, Calif. last weekend. She had at least a hit and a run in each game and had two multi-hit performances and two two-run games. In addition to registering a .500 batting average and a .533 on base percentage, she was 3-for-3 on stolen base attempts and chipped in two RBI.

Starting all 22 games for Minnesota thus far at second base, Parlich has hit .420 with a .459 on-base percentage. She has 13 RBI and leads the Big Ten with three triples. Defensively, she has been a part of six double plays.

Minnesota resumes play this weekend with five games at the Fresno State Classic before playing California in a midweek game next week. Conference action begins for the Gophers March 20 at Illinois.
