The China tour follows the announcement of yesterday's World University Team roster, where Paige Tapp (Stewartville, Minn.) was a part of their 12-player selection. Athletes were selected through the U.S. Women's National Team Open Tryouts held Feb. 20-22 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. An additional 36 players, which will be announced next week, will train and compete in conjunction with the 2015 USA Volleyball Girls' Junior National Championships in June at New Orleans.
Tapp completed her sophomore season last year after playing in 30 matches, 28 of which were starts. She ranked fifth in the Big Ten in blocks per set, averaging 1.26. In her second season with the Gophers, Tapp averaged 1.60 kills per set and hit .242, playing both as a middle and right-side hitter. She ranked fourth overall in kills (163) in 102 sets played. Wilhite played as both an outside hitter and right-side hitter during her sophomore campaign last year. Seeing action in 31 games and starting in 28, Wilhite ranked second on the team in kills (309) and aces (16). She also contributed 222 digs and averaged 0.85 blocks per set. Both Tapp and Wilhite will become Gopher juniors in 2015.
