Gov. Dayton Proclaims National Champions Day

SAINT PAUL, Minn. -- Governor Mark Dayton has proclaimed today, April 15, 2015, Gopher Women's Hockey National Champions Day. The Gophers visited the governor's mansion for a reception this afternoon.
Governor Dayton and several local officials visited with the Gophers at the Minnesota Governor's Residence, and Governor Dayton expressed his congratulations to the team for winning the 2015 NCAA national championship. He read the following proclamation to honor the team:
State of Minnesota Proclamation
WHEREAS: The NCAA Division I Women's Hockey 2015 Frozen Four championship game matched the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers against the Harvard University Crimson at Ridder Arena in Minneapolis, Minnesota; and
WHEREAS: The University of Minnesota defeated Harvard University 4-1; and
WHEREAS: Forward Hannah Brandt earned the title of Most Outstanding Player of the 2015 Frozen Four, with four points in the tournament; and goaltender Amanda Leveille, defenseman Megan Wolfe, forward Maryanne Menefee, forward Dani Cameranesi and forward Hannah Brandt were named to the 2015 NCAA All-Tournament Team; and
WHEREAS: The University of Minnesota Women's Hockey Team has the distinction of being the 2015 NCAA Division I Champions; and
WHEREAS: The University of Minnesota Women's Hockey Team has the added distinction of appearing in four consecutive national championship games; and
WHEREAS: Led by Coach Brad Frost, the Gopher Women demonstrated extraordinary determination, skill, and perseverance on their way to the University's sixth National Championship in Women's Hockey and its third national victory in the last four seasons; and
WHEREAS: The University of Minnesota Women's Hockey Team serves as a source of great pride for all people in the State of Minnesota.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, MARK DAYTON, Governor of Minnesota, do hereby proclaim April 15, 2015 as: GOPHER WOMEN'S HOCKEY NATIONAL CHAMPIONS DAY in Minnesota, the State of Hockey.
