CoSIDA Release
Minnesota softball seniors Erica Meyer and Hannah Granger were both selected to the Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-District 6 Softball Team, the organization announced Thursday. The honor recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.
Meyer, a 2014 NFCA All-Great Lakes Region Third Team member, is hitting .351 on the season. She earned the Big Ten Player of the Week in February and has accrued numerous scholastic accolades, including Academic All-Big Ten, Big Ten Distinguished Scholar and the top-five award for being one of the five female student-athletes with the highest cumulative GPA. She is studying supply chain and operations management.
Granger, an elementary education major, led Minnesota in batting average in conference play in 2014 and carried that momentum into 2015 by starting the season with a career-best 15-game hitting streak. As a senior, she has nearly doubled her career RBI and home run totals. Last season, she was named Academic All-Big Ten and was an NFCA All-America Scholar Athlete.
The 2014-15 Capital One Academic All-District Baseball and Softball Teams, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America, have been released to recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.
Minnesota will pick up play at the Big Ten Tournament in Columbus, Ohio this week. The defending champion Gophers will be the tournament's second seed and will receive a bye in the first round. They will play either No. 7 seed Rutgers or 10th-seeded Iowa in the quarterfinal round at 7 p.m. CT Friday on the Big Ten Network.
